Aerobel’s invited paper on Simulation-based Acquisition (SBA) was very well received at the International Conference in London on 1-2 March 2000. The paper described the technical challenges of implementing SBA at the enterprise level across the whole of the Acquisition lifecycle.

It gave a historical perspective before postulating the current requirements for SBA and identifying the issues arising from these requirements.

It was shown that Collaborative Virtual Product Development (CVPD) software tools are the only solution that meets all of the requirements. Examples were given to demonstrate closure of-the-loop in each of the major phases in the Whole Life process.

The paper concluded that, for SBA to be successful, we must close the loop throughout the whole of the Acquisition lifecycle and CVPD is the key enabling technology to achieve this.
